It is my sad duty to let you know that the Royal British Legion is to be closed on health and safety grounds immediately.
On behalf of the club the committee has thanked Don & Manny and the Legion, St Albans for their support and for being excellent hosts to the club for the last 3 years.
Whilst the timing of this announcement is quite sudden it is not entirely unexpected and we have a contingency plan in place for this eventuality. We have built up a small reserve in funds and have managed to source an alternative venue for the same timeslot 4pm to 10pm on Sundays for the next few months whilst we decide on a new permanent home for the club. We also have organised secure storage for the club terrain and boards at the new venue which is at:
Westmill Community Centre - at the rear of - John Barker Place, Hitchin, SG5 2PG. It is a 34 minute drive from the Legion
It is a brand new building with free parking, free wifi, tables provided, a fully stocked bar and the freedom for us to bring our tuck shop and own beverages if we wish. We are hiring the youth wing but will be the only occupants of the centre after 6pm.
It is really important that we all stick together as a group through this period of change. There will be people who require a lift to the new venue so if you drive and have a spare seat or two please post it on the thread on the boards or facebook as we need to ensure membership attendance over the next few weeks so as not to erode the capital we have built up. We will arrange convenient pick up points for people.
Directions - Up the M1 to junction 10 Luton then follow the A505 signs to Hitchin or up the A1 to junction 8 and take the A602 to Hitchin, take the 3rd exit (straight across) the Three Moorhens roundabout and follow the bypass round to the roundabout
At this roundabout both routes have brought you onto the one way system - take the A600 towards Bedford. (first exit if coming from Luton , second exit if coming from Stevenage)
Through 2 sets of lights then straight over the roundabout at the football club towards Bedford (Bedford Road) , past the Shell garage on your left, over another roundabout then turn left onto Redhill road at the next one then a right onto the residential Westmill Road.
The fourth left is John Barker Place, past a parade of shops on your left then the poorly signed entrance is a turning on your right (if you get to Bingen Road you have missed it!). If you miss the turn then the enxt road on your right is Hine Way - there is another entrance via the only right turn off this road.
My number, if anyone needs it is 07809 232341
The post game McDonalds is a strong club tradition - Hitchin McDonalds is currently being refurbished in anticipation of the club's arrival but will not reopen until 6th of June - luckily Hertfordshire's finest kebabs are available.
